Rio Clarke
After walking away from my dream of playing professional football in 2017 at 18, I came into the television industry the following year with no expectations - so I am incredibly proud to have achieved what I have thus far. My career highlights to date include: Producer for number one UK charted podcast ‘The Greatest Game with Jamie Carragher’; Assistant Producer for award winning ‘The Overlap’ (British Sports Journalism Award 2021 - YouTube Sports Show); the lead Assistant Producer for multi-award winning ‘Micah Richards: Tackling Racism’ (Broadcast Sport awards 2021 – Best Sport Documentary & Television Broadcast Innovative awards 2021 – Best representation on screen); receiving the SJA British Sports Journalism Awards 2021 - One to Watch award and producing/directing branded content with clients such as Liverpool Football Club.
My journey started at MAMA Youth Project as a Trainee Sound Operator. MYP is a charity organisation founded by Bob Clarke (not my dad… I’ve been asked many times!) that aims to help people from diverse and under-privileged backgrounds find a route into the television industry. After MYP, I interviewed at Buzz 16 in October 2018 where CEO & Co Owner Scott Melvin offered me a 6-week internship.
